PASTORAL COUNCIL

Purpose: To consult with the Pastor and recommend and implement activities regarding pastoral care of St. James.
Activities: Oversee the spiritual ceremonies and social functions of the parish.
Participants: Persons nominated every year by the parish-at-large and elected by the Pastoral Council.
Meeting Times: The first Thursday of the month at 6:30 PM in the Parish Hall Boardroom.

ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF

Purpose: To oversee the day-to-day activities of the parish.
Activities: Maintain Sacramental records – Baptism, First Eucharist, Confirmation, Marriage, Death. Prepare weekly bulletin, maintain office records and all contributions.
Participants: Persons hired by the Pastor, and those who volunteer their time.

FINANCE COMMITTEE

Purpose: To maintain the financial status of the parish.
Activities: Prepare the parish budget and oversee the financial stability of that budget.
Participants: Members elected by the Pastor.

PROPERTY MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

Purpose: Assist the Administrator in evaluation of all church property and potential properties.
Activities: Examine existing property conditions, develop short and long term plans, advise on maintenance and development of the campus.
Participants: Volunteers from the parish.
Meeting Times: Quarterly or as necessary.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS - 3RD DEGREE

Purpose: An organization of Catholic gentlemen founded on faith, family and fraternity. Through service and charitable donations the Knight's support deserving agencies.
Activities: Fundraising activities include Bingo and Bar-B-Q sales which help support charities like Seton Home for pregnant women and child advocacy group. The Knights visit hospitals and nursing homes, and gives scholarships to high school graduates who plan to attend college.
Participants: Any catholic man, over 18 years of age, in good standing with the church and community.
Meeting Times: Second Monday of the month at 6:30 PM in the KC Hall.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS - 4TH DEGREE

Purpose: To foster the spirit of patriotism by promoting responsible citizenship and a love of and loyalty to the Knights’ respective countries.
Activities: Contribute time, talent and treasure to Church and patriotic causes. The color corps, composed of members, displays support of our Catholic faith and the Church in civic and religious events. Participate in funerals and serve as the Bishops and other Church hierarchy honor guard.
Participants: Any Third degree member in good standing, one year after becoming First Degree member is eligible for membership.
Meeting Times: Second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 PM in the KC Hall.

ST. ANN’S CIRCLE

Purpose: Ladies social organization that also makes donations of time and money to the parish, the school and nursing homes.
Activities: The group visits the sick, and nursing homes where they host bingo. The group hosts out of town trips and luncheons, and holds a raffle to raise money for the parish.
Participants: All ladies of the parish.
Meeting Times: First Wednesday of every month at 2 PM, September through May in the Parish Family Center.

CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAS

Purpose: The largest women’s Catholic organization that embraces the principal of faith working for advancement of human rights and supporting parish activities.
Activities: Serve, assist and encourage all ladies of the parish to join together as one to support national, state and local activities through the “Circle of Love.”
Participants: All females over 18, actively practicing the Catholic faith and in good standing with the church.
Meeting Times: Second Tuesday of every month at 7 PM in the CDA building.

JUNIOR CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAS #2505

Purpose: The mission of the Junior Catholic Daughters of the Americas (JCDA) is to achieve four goals: to develop oneself as a Christian, to learn to work for the good of others, to grow spiritually, and to be creative and flexible.
Activities: Church, community and religious involvement.
Participants: All ladies 6-18.
Meeting Times: Third Sunday of every month after the 8 AM Mass in the CDA building.

LITURGY COMMITTEE

Purpose: To present a meaningful service for the worship of God.
Activities: Schedule all services with the different organizations. Listen to the wishes of parishioners for changes. Coordinate the services of Christmas, Ash Wednesday, Lent and Easter.
Participants: Anyone interested in making service meaningful.
Meeting Times: Third Wednesday of the month (except May–July) at 6 PM in the Parish Family Center.

EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF THE EUCHARIST

Purpose: To administer the Blessed Sacraments, the Body and Blood of Christ, at Mass.
Activities: Assists the Priest in distributing the Body and Blood of Christ at all Masses. Also visit and take Communion to Nursing Homes, shut-ins and Hospital.
Participants: All Catholics in good standing who have attended the instructional sessions.
Meeting Times: When necessary to make changes.

LECTORS/COMMENTATORS

Purpose: To proclaim the word of God through the readings of the Gospels.
Activities: Reverently read the Epistle at each Mass. Make all pre-service announcements and assists in the Mass by reading other parts of the service. They are expected to remain after mass to help sort the collections.
Participants: Any Catholic in good standing with the church
Meeting Times: When necessary to instruct or make changes.

ALTAR SERVERS

Purpose: To train young boys and girls who are interested in serving the Lord by participating in the Mass and other services.
Activities: Trains youth to service Masses, Funerals and special occasions; retreats.
Participants: All boys and girls nine years of age and older.
Meeting Times: In the church when five or more participants are available.

MUSIC

Purpose: To enhance the service with appropriate music and make the liturgy more meaningful.
Activities: Schedule personnel for each Mass, pick the proper music, enhance the Adult Choir, Contemporary Christian Choir, and to train Cantors.
Participants: Anyone.
Meeting Times: Adult Choir meets every other Thursday at 7 PM in the church loft.

GIFT BEARERS

Purpose: To present the gifts of bread and wine used for the mass.
Activities: Meet in the rear of church following collection. Lead the gifts of bread and wine and the collection to the altar for presentation to the celebrant.
Participants: Anyone interested in participating in the service.

SACRISTANS

Purpose: To prepare the church for the Eucharistic ceremony and other sacred events.
Activities: Prepare the church for Mass, funerals, weddings and other sacred events, making sure wine and water, chalice, lighted candles and all other items are in place.
Participants: All men and women over 18 years of age in good standing in the church.
Meeting Times: When necessary.

ROSARY

Purpose: To have the Rosary said prior to all weekend Masses.
Activities: Different decades are said at each Mass. Rosary begins 30 minutes prior to the service.
Participants: Open to any parishioner.

USHERS

Purpose: Welcome all persons as they enter the church, seat them, and control movement during the service.
Activities: To help hold orderly services from the welcoming to the policing of the pew following the service for possessions left behind and dispose of trash. Collect and present the first and second offerings. Pass out bulletins at the end of Mass.
Participants: Anyone interested in helping fellow parishioners.

SEGUIN A.C.T.S.

Purpose: Adoration, Community, Theology, Service is a lay-based weekend retreat for men, women and teens.
Activities: Holds annual retreats for men, women and teens. It has social activities twice a year for small church community development.
Participants: Open to all people of the parish.
Meeting Times: Third Tuesday of the month at 6:30 PM in the Board Room.

ADORATION

Purpose: To offer a quiet and prayerful atmosphere that will allow Adorers the opportunity to spend quality time worshipping the Blessed Sacrament. Our aim is to maximize a perpetual adoration schedule that allows for prayer and inspiration in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament.
Activities: Special events during the year, retreats for individuals and families, reading material is always available as well as inspirational music in a quiet atmosphere
Participants: Anyone with a desire to get in touch with themselves and become inspired to be a better person.
Meeting Times: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

ST. JAMES SCHOOL

Purpose: To provide Catholic oriented education to 3K through 8th grade.
Activities: Educate both local and parish children through the 8th grade in a Christian atmosphere to prepare tomorrow's leaders today.
Participants: Parish family members and the general public who use the school as an alternative to public education.
Meeting Times: 7:30 AM until 6 PM daily Monday through Friday.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

Purpose: To have a continuing education in the Catholic faith and an intense preparation for the Sacraments.
Activities: Children are taught the meaning of the Sacraments, the need for becoming part of the parish family, spiritually and socially. The program includes children from Pre K through 8th grade.
Participants: All children from three years old through the 8th grade.
Meeting Times: PreK–5th grade meets Sundays at 9 AM.
6–8th grade meets Wednesdays at 7 PM.

RCIA

Purpose: To introduce adults who have not yet been baptized Catholic to an understanding of the faith.
Activities: Instruction is built around the Sacraments of Initiation of Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist.

FAMILY RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

Purpose: To fulfill our Baptism and Confirmation promise through family centered religious education, service, liturgy, and community building.
Activities: A five-year program, broken into five age groups (infant through high school) and the parents. Socials for couples and families are also throughout the year. The group also does parish and community service projects.
Participants: Couples interested in lessons that incorporate the Catholic faith.
Meeting Times: Every other Sunday at 9 AM in the Parish Family Center.

HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH MINISTRY

Purpose: To promote the participation of young people to the faith and the continuation of our faith foundation.
Activities: Conduct religious education classes, have youth socials and perform service projects.
Participants: All high school age youth from the parish and their friends.

UNITAS

Purpose: Educational preparation of engaged couples for the Sacrament of Marriage.
Activities: A six-week class using workbooks, sanctioned by the Archdiocese to satisfy marriage preparation requirements.
Participants: Any engaged couple eligible for marriage in the Catholic Church, or those in a civil marriage seeking Con-validation.
Meeting Times: As announced in the Parish Family Center.

LITTLE ROCK SCRIPTURE STUDY

Purpose: A designed study of the bible.
Activities: Read the bible and study, discuss and pray over the different sections. It is a very formalized program with study material.
Participants: Anyone interested in bible study.

BAPTISM PREPARATION

Purpose: To complete the certification for parents and Godparents of babies/children about to be baptized.
Activities: Baptism study covers all requirements needed to meet certification, and explains the theology of the Sacrament.
Participants: Anyone wishing to baptize their child.
Meeting Times: For infants: Pick up registration form and information at the parish office. Register at least 3 weeks in advance. Sessions consist of two classes held in the Parish Family Center at 6:30 PM in Jan/Mar/May/July/Sept/Nov.

BIBLE STUDY & PRAYER CHAIN

Purpose: For people who want to study the word of God and pray for the needs of their fellow parishioners.
Activities: The group reads three sections of the scripture and discusses those as to their meaning with present day life. They pray for parishioners and ask for God’s help with their needs.
Participants: Anyone interested in bible study.
Meeting Times: Tuesday’s from 9:30 AM to 11 AM.

Purpose: To make personal contact with new members and make them feel like part of the community.
Activities: Host coffee and donut gatherings for new members following Mass, and hold socials at couple’s homes. Have available nametags at Masses for new members.

MINISTRY TO THE SICK

Purpose: Provide Sacramental needs and comfort to the sick in nursing homes, local hospital and homebound parishioners.
Activities: Take Communion to the sick and inform the Pastor or Deacon of the need for Anointing of the Sick.
Participants: Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist and any parish member to provide comfort.

BEREAVEMENT

Purpose: To provide family and friends of the deceased member an opportunity to visit following the funeral services.
Activities: Contact family of the deceased. Furnish and serve refreshments (sandwiches, drinks, etc) in the family center. If the reception is held in the home, only food is provided.
Participants: A list of volunteers.
Meeting Times: When required.

BLOOD DRIVE

Purpose: To furnish human blood, for the area, through the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center.
Activities: Hold a quarterly blood drive with the Tissue Center’s donor van at the church on a given Sunday.
Participants: Anyone over 17 years of age, weighing at least 110 lbs., who is physically able to donate.

CHURCH ART & ENVIRONMENT

Purpose: To prepare the church for liturgical services.
Activities: Decorate the church using flowers, posters, etc. Wash linens used in services, clean the sacristy and holy water founts. Prepare the church for seasonal services (i.e., Christmas, Easter).
Participants: Anyone interested in helping keep the church presentable.

Purpose: To make available a place for Christian burial.
Activities: Make the family of the deceased aware of all things available for burial. Provide for perpetual care and handle the sale of plots.

FESTIVAL COMMITTEE

Purpose: Establish plans for the annual Parish Festival.
Activities: Develop projects and personnel to make the festival a success. Organize chairpersons, obtain contributions, sign entertainment, and design the layout for the various games and foodservice.

Meeting Times: Once a month prior to the festival.
